It’s been more than three years since Chattanooga took home the top prize in Outside‘s annual Best Places to Live in the U.S. contest. It overcame stiff competition from some of the best small cities in America.
Still, it’s the only city ever to win the award twice. While we love evangelizing about just how awesome our fair city it, there’s something special about hearing that out-of-towners think so too.
Chattanooga’s outdoor cred isn’t really news. The quantity and quality of adventure playgrounds—including the Tennessee River, which wraps around the city, and a bevy of Class IV–V rapids on the nearby Ocoee—helped it win our Best Towns contest four years ago.
But now the city itself has caught up with the surrounding action. Neighborhoods are filling up with record stores, coffeehouses, and restaurants, and breweries are opening that offer the perfect nightcaps to days spent on the trails, creeks, and crags.
Truth! And the city’s only gotten better since!
Although it was filmed in 2015, this video already feels a little dated. But, that only highlights how far the city has already come in three short years.
