If W Hotels were to debut a niche hotel brand for cash-strapped, style-conscious Millennials, the Moxy Hotel Chattanooga might be it.
Low-down on Moxy Hotel Chattanooga
For months now, Chattanooga’s newest Southside hotel has been teasing its launch on social media, most notably Instagram. Their feed hinted at the 108-room hotel’s bold, in-your-face decor and too-hip ethos with images of young models jumping playfully on hotel beds, half-naked Abercrombie & Fitch-worthy models doing handstands, and playful, almost-inspirational quotes like “THE FIRST FIVE DAYS AFTER THE WEEKEND ARE ALWAYS THE HARDEST.”
The months-long ad campaign has delivered on its promise. Upon entering the lobby, guests are surrounded by concrete floors and a distinct, urban loft-style decor. Check-in occurs at the bar. A large video wall cycles through a seemingly endless feed of guests’ Instagram posts. There’s a pool table and a media room with a massive, 65-inch TV. Lockers on the first floor provide space for incoming and outgoing guests to stow their luggage — all are uniquely named with the titles of movies starring Samuel L. Jackson (a Chattanooga resident).
Just outside sits 7,000 square feet of patio space where a bright yellow shipping container serves as the de facto “lobby bar.” These are all signs that this isn’t your typical Chattanooga hotel.
The rooms are equally stylish with sliding barn doors separating the bathrooms from the sleep space. In-room phones can connect sleepless guests to a dedicated line that plays one of four different bedtime stories. The ethos here appears to be savvy minimalism. The rooms are modestly sized and there are no closets, but rather just pegs for guests to hang their clothes/bags and under-bed drawers for a bit of extra storage.
The Moxy Chattanooga assures us they used environmentally sustainable practices throughout the hotel’s build. Bricks from a nearby torn-down building were repurposed in the Moxy’s construction. Plus, a rooftop solar array supplement’s its electricity needs.
